For this week’s Folk Music Sunday, I decided to share “Andrew’s Song.” I wrote this when my older kids were little, probably 20 or 25 years ago. It’s a song about the mission of Jesus from the point of view (imagined, of course) of Andrew the Apostle. I was always fascinated by the degree of doubt in the Apostles as depicted in the Gospels—and they were with him!
Anyway, I always like this one and have an arrangement in my head with fretless bass and some screeching slide guitar. Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to making a proper recording of it.
ANDREW’S SONG I remember when first we set eyes on him. We left our boats, our nets, and our families. We left the past. But we still didn’t believe. We went with him walking from town to town, Watching the demons flying away When he’d come around. But we still didn’t believe. Then we seen him walk on the water, Then we seen him bright as day. Then we seen him, me and my brothers, Seen him walk on the waves. I remember when first we set eyes on him. We left our boats, our nets, and our families. We left the past. But we still didn’t believe. Then we seen him walk on the water, Then we seen him bright as day. Then we seen him, me and my brothers, Seen him walk on the waves.
