Farjeon was indeed the most pleasant surprise in that course. And I think of Søren Kierkegaard as one of my saints: the greatest philosopher who ever lived, in my opinion, and without whom I might have never gotten the intellectual infrastructure I needed to break out of the secular modern vision and become a Christian.
You have reminded me that I love the Cavalier poets whenever I've encountered them. So now I must sample Robert Herrick.
As for my saints list?
First is my father. He showed me what dying with grace can look like.
After that? So many to choose from!
Patrick, who was crucial to my understanding of the Church through Time. He broke through my early education that the Faith had disappeared between Constantine and the Reformation.
Lawrence, for his wit. "Turn me over, I think I'm done on this side."
Peter, for his perseverance in failure. "Lord, to whom shall we go?"
Michael, for his protection.
Thomas Aquinas, for showing what is possible with the mind.
Thank you, Michael, for a great post! Why they called Thérese ' a little flower' I'll never know - she is a fierce and urgent soul, and a Capricorn, of course, so not likely to be anything but out there! We may be better situated for a chat in mid0December once we have got November's burdens out of the way.
I haven't heard you sing but I think you do Christian stuff. I always wanted to hear Ralph Stanley sing "Come Thou Font of Every Blessing". Maybe get Don Was to help. Buddy Miller, maybe.
For now...
St. Brendan--the first Celtic saint, outside of Padraig, that I knew.
St. Seraphim of Sarov--C'mon, he had a bear for a companion.
St. Kateri--a saint of my land.
St. Joseph--terror of demons, nuff said.

And of course, G. K. Chesterton for his mirth.
Too many to mention- but your writing and poetry brought them back into my life again. Thank you! Happy All Saints Day.
