Oh, this was so good. Thank you for helping us to remember these men who lived and died in obscurity and remained somewhat “opake” to this day. He who has eyes to see and ears to hear……. ❤️

I only recently became aware of the eschatological depth of Blake's attack on contemporary chattel slavery, the slave trade, and English imperialism. A tremendous soul!

Michael, on the subject of Scotch poets, have you read Ossian/James MacPherson? It seems he is another one of these seminal early Romantic figures that is now typically forgotten.

Yes, I have! I have a really old edition of it somewhere in my house!

As a Presbyterian, I'd really like to complain about your comments about Presbyterianism -- but I can't, really.

Our ecclesia could have been beautiful if it wasn't slave to Calvin and the Puritans

Thanks for this, Michael. It is good to see a now underread Romantic like Burns receive some attention.

Great ruminations. The relative lack of appealing political options with more than a snowball’s chance in hell is a bit of a bummer.

Hello Dr. Martin,

I apologize for the unrelated question, which was prompted from watching you video on Fludd and Vaughn: I have heard one commenter say that Fludd's Utriusque... is ponderous. Would you say it's a worthy read and has much of value that it not in his Mosaical philosophy?

If "Godless heathens" allowed here, I can nevertheless appreciate the anarchy inherent in poverty. It is perhaps the most commonly available truly effective protest - and legal to boot. Make so little in reportable that the taxman is either not owed at all or not enough to be worth his while. It is common, middle-class greed by willful ignorance thus funds many wars - especially the worst afforded by obscene coffers.

I see your point, but the bad guys still win. How about we try the "all taxation is theft" approach and see what happens?
